Mr. McCann delivers complex estate planning services and business services. Following Mr. McCann’s graduation with a degree in accountancy, he obtained his certified public accountant designation (CPA) and worked for a major accounting firm in their tax and audit department. After gaining an abundance of tax experience, Mr. McCann went back to school to obtain his law degree. While attending Quinnipiac University School of Law, he received the Distinguished Academic Achievement Award and AAA-CPA Scholarship, as well as the Phi Delta Phi American Jurisprudence Award for Business Organizations. For his third year, he attended DePaul University College of Law as a visiting law student.
Upon law school graduation, Mr. McCann practiced with a Chicago law firm for fifteen years: five years as an associate and ten years as a partner with the firm. In 2012, he joined a local Joliet law firm, where he practiced for another ten years before joining KGG, LLC as a partner in February 2022.
Mr. McCann represents many businesses, particularly family-owned and closely-held businesses, working closely with them to ensure optimal business structure upon start up and the use of wise tax strategies on an ongoing basis. He guides entrepreneurs in the formation and financing of new entities. He has extensive experience drafting partnership agreements, shareholder agreements, and limited liability company operating agreements. He also has significant experience setting up and advising private foundations and a variety of other not-for-profit and charitable organizations. He represents both businesses and individuals in tax audits being conducted by the IRS and state agencies.
Mr. McCann negotiates and facilitates a broad range of asset and stock acquisitions, mergers, reorganizations, and divestitures, including real estate transactions. He also negotiates and documents virtually every kind of agreement including, employment and non-compete agreements, real and personal property leases, and agency and confidentiality agreements.
With broad and proficient skills in structuring complex estate plans, Mr. McCann is able to minimize tax consequences and maximize benefits for intended beneficiaries by utilizing a variety of types of trusts and charitable vehicles, in addition to wills. He also provides estate and trust administration representation.
Mr. McCann is also extremely proud of his extensive work with many charitable organizations.
